Block 8 – Vehicle Stabilization
TIMELINE:
Complete by: End of November
Hands-On training: End of November
BLOCK PURPOSE:
The focus of this block is to work on vehicle stabilization. Captain Bryner sees a recurring theme of students struggling with ratchet straps, chains, cluster hooks, struts, and come alongs when he teaches extrication classes. He shared some of the issues he sees, along with the solutions in the following videos. This training is focused on Engine Company Stabilization utilizing the complement of stabilization gear on the Engines. There is also a CPS to review that focuses on the initial Engines arrival from the triage process to extrication. As with the other CPS’s the goal is to get the initial actions headed in the right direction from the onset of the call. This starts with a good scene size up and clear expectations of what member’s responsibilities are. Please review and leave feedback here. At the end of the month, there will be scenarios to practice initial arrival and stabilization skills.
